Primary education is an essential stage in the growth of an individual's conduct, social mindfulness and selflessness. At school we learn qualities and practices that will remain with us all through our adulthood and characterize what describes us.That is what makes it significant to spark curiosity in caring for and protecting environment while students are at school.
The aim of teaching student’s environmental education is for them to be mindful of nature as a part of their lives as opposed to just studying it. The idea behind this subject is for young people to develop a firm ecological mindset & use it to overcome todays environmental challenges with a proactive attitude & strong commitment.
OBJECTIVES OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS
Including environmental education in schools is now being prescribed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
- To make them more aware and conscious of environmental problems.
- To boost their interest in caring for and improving the environment.
- To enhance their ability to learn about their surroundings.
- To broaden their ecological knowledge in subjects such as energy, landscapes, air, water, natural resources and wildlife.
Children are future leaders and they are going to have to face huge challenges — such as global warming and water stress — and make crucial decisions for all of mankind. The future is in their hands!
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AT VSS
At VSS, Environmental education process is included in our primary and secondary school's syllabus, as well as in all activitiesand talks. The way it is taught in the classroom isaltered to the age and maturity of the student and is not just theoretical but also practical, entertaining, and fun.
Apart from the activities that are done at the school premise or at targeted planting areas,Children can go outdoors to learn about plants, trees, rivers, birds and insects, but also about environmental problems such as pollution, gas emissions, energy consumption, recycling, good use of water and a whole host of other important aspects.
We conduct talk shows / webinars by eminent personalities on global warming, Climate change, pollution, Deforestation etc through the year.
“Climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here; it is happening now”- Barrack Obama
It took longer than anticipated and apparently longer than what we wanted; however, Climate Change is a mounting concern that has been spreading across the globe, the risk of climate change is very real.
The perils of not decreasing our carbon footprint are critical, if we aren’t resolute on diminishing our carbon impression – right away; it could be down over for some species on the planet and it will get extreme for us humans as well. Wonder how Climate change impact us, double click on the Nat Geo video below,
The great news is there is still time to make a difference. So, in spite the fact that the climate will get more unpredictable, if we; the students & community in general pull our weight behind reducing our carbon footprint, we can save the earth we depend on.
But let us understand what happens to the billions of tons emitted every year and it seems to just disappear. How can that be?
Well the short answer is it's going to three places: a good chunk is hanging around in the sky, a large part is dissolving in the oceans, and the last major portion is getting captured by plants and soils.
With information comes knowledge, which brings mindfulness and catalyses action. Our “Climate Action” is to plant more trees to save the planet. TOGETHER LET US ACT,
MY TREE MY PLANET
Created in 2018, the My Tree-My Planet campaign focused on mitigating Climate change through Planting Trees.
WE PLEDGE TO
GROW HALF A MILLION TREES BY 2030.
The clock’s ticking, so let’s get going & do it the fun way!
